HOW TO

CHOOSE YOUR

PLASTIC SURGEON

Choosing the right specialist is a decision that profoundly impacts your wellbeing. Therefore, it's crucial to differentiate between a Specialist Plastic Surgeon and a cosmetic surgeon by verifying your doctor's credentials.

We want you to feel confident in your choice; use the guide below to make sure you’re in the right hands.

Your Guide to Choosing the Right Specialist Plastic Surgeon

Make sure your doctor has obtained a Fellowship of the Royal Australasian College of Surgeons (FRACS) — the highest level of training recognised in Australia.

  • Ask if your surgeon is a member of the Australian Society of Plastic Surgeons.

  • Check that your doctor includes the letters FRACS after their name, confirming they have completed at least 12 years of medical and surgical education, including at least five years of specialist postgraduate training.

  • Ask about your doctor’s Continuing Professional Development Program (CPD) with the College to ensure they are committed to keeping up to date with the latest research and advancements.
